BELIEVE An Art Journal Page for Off The Rails Scrapbooking

I'm back today to share a page on my art journal :)

I will usually carry my art journal with me during the weekend. Doodling is my past time while waiting for my boy to finish his class. So I thought I share the process.

Many of us have seen pretty art journal pages online. Some would start asking, did they just doodle with the pen and everything just turns out so perfect? Well, I'm not sure about others, but for me I always start off with a pencil and eraser :)

Here are some photos to show the creation process.

Started with the centre focus; the word BELIEVE

Then I added the peacock inspired patterns to the bottom of the word.

And I start beautifying the word by adding some leaves, hearts and swirls around it.

Once I've achieve the look I want, I will go over it with waterproof, smudge proof pigment ink pens. 

Here I have used 2 types of thickness a 0.3 and 0.5

Once we have lined everything, it's time to fill the images with colors! 

I wanted the word BELIEVE to look like wooden block letters, hence I have used the distress markers in the picture to create the effect.

For the leaves, I have used the Faber Castell water colour pencils to give them a soft touch.

Take a close look on the photo below, see how I have created a gradual effect by just coloring the bottom portion. 

With a water brush, I will push the colors upwards giving me a very natural gradient.

I'm using the same technique on the swirly hearts but this time instead of filling the bottom with colors, I do it from the top half.  

When I'm done with the images, I distress the bottom of the word with 2 colors,  Distress Ink in Broken China and Squeezed Lemonade. 

The final step will be to distress the edge around the page to emphasize and focus on the centre area.

So here's the completed page again.

Enchanted Forest

Hello everyone,

What have you been up to recently? Hope whatever it is, things are going on well for you :)

As for me, I have recently been busy coloring!! Yes coloring!! I remember that when I was young, I love to color and I pick up what I love doing decades ago. This time round, I take coloring to the adult level...do you know that there are adult coloring books in the market? I have picked up Johanna Basford's Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest recently and having a swell time coloring. 

Those who know me will know that I need craft therapy regularly or otherwise face a grouchy lady! LoL. These coloring books became a very handy tool when you know you need to do some crafty stuffs but has no time or is too tired to take out all your supplies and start crafting. Coloring is the next best thing. Make sense???

Alright back to main topic. I'm here today to share a project I have created for Off The Rails Scrapbooking based on the June challenge moodboard below. 

Super duper inspired am I by all the beautiful drawings in the coloring books, I decided to make my own version of an enchanted forest.......the pretty colors I used to create this canvas was based on the color palette of Off The Rails Scrapbooking June moodboard. So here it is!!! 

By the way, did you notice there is a little extra magical touch among the leaves? Check out this close up below...I have tiny fairies plucking the magical red flowers. These tiny fairies actually reminds me of Tinkerbell in Peter Pan. Hence, I added the teeny weeny stars between the ground and the leaves. Simulating pixie dust that Tinkerbell has.

Before I forget, do take note how I gave some dimension to the leaves by tracing some of the leaf shapes with a white Uniball Gel pen.

Making an album with envelopes - Off The Rails Scrapbooking

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing a tutorial on how to make an album with envelopes and scrap pieces of pattern papers.

This is the sample of how the album will look like after dressing it up.

You can use the normal envelopes to make this album cover but it will be a soft cover. If so, please scroll straight down to the photo of the score board.

For me, I prefer it to be more hardy. Thus will be making some with my cardstock and the Envelope Punch Board from We re Memory Keeper.

What I love about this envelope puncher is that I can make it to any size and the instructions are all provided. For this album I'm going to make, I will need them to be 5" x 7". Thus I need a paper size of 9.5" x 9.5" :)

I have prepare 2 pieces of 9.5" x 9.5" cardstocks

Line paper to score line 4 and score. 

   

Remember to punch and turn it anti-clockwise.

Repeat the same steps for the next 3 sides.

  

This is how the paper will look like when you are done with all 4 sides.

Now turn the punch board over and use the reverse punch to round the corners.

 Now take a score board and score at 1" on only one corner of the long side of the envelope. 

Then sealed the 3 sides. See picture below.

Now align the envelope to the side and score the open flap at 5.75" (five and three quarter inch).

Repeat the steps above to create the other envelope. 

When you are done, you will have 2 envelopes looking like the picture below.

Now insert both sides of the open flaps into each envelope. 

The picture below shows the top down view. 

You have just completed the album cover!

Next, we need a long strip of paper; 11" x 7" to make a bone for the pages. 

Leave about 4" from the side and score 9 times. Each time giving a spacing of 3/8"

Fold the score lines; alternating the bends as you do so. See picture below.

It's now time to prepare the pages. Trim 8 pieces of pattern paper to a size of 5" x 7"

Paste the pages on the V bone you have just created. Ensure that the pages align well.

This is should be the final look after you have finish pasting all the 8 pieces of pattern papers.

Now slide the 2 sides of the completed album into the envelope covers and you are done!

*Similar action to how you insert the passport into the covers*

Here are the photos of the completed album with blank front and back covers.

I went ahead to beautify my front and back cover and this is my final version.

Scary Eye

Hi everyone,

Today, I'm gonna surprise you with a double page art journal that I have created for Off The Rails Scapbooking April challenge. It's a double fun month, as you can create base on either one of the mood board or both!

My journal page is mainly based on the 2nd mood board.....ready for the reveal?

My journal page is mainly inspired by the 2nd mood board. I wanted to doodle a big eye but never thought that it will end up to be a scary one with bleeding pink eye.

See below, I started drawing a simple big eye in my journal while waiting for the black canvas to dry.

Think I worked on the background on a crazy day which ended up like this with all the crazy lines.

I have used the following supplies to color up this crazy doodling.
