Valentine's Day Card for Canvas Corp Brand

Hi hi back here again to share a Valentine's Day card which I have created for Canvas Corp Brand crew challenge....yes :) I'm proud to be part of their creative team!

This Valentine's Day card I have created deviates from the usual hearts, pink or soft looks. I wanted it to be a meaningful card. So it's base on a Nautica theme as we both love going for beach holidays, lots of lovely memories lazing on the beautiful white sand and crystal clear water :) In addition, the seashells were picked by our boy when we head down to the beach on weekends.

Simple tools are required to create this card:
1) Paint Brush for painting the the background underneath the medical gauze and also on the burlap fabric.
2) Paper Distresser to distress the sides of the blue and white paper
3) Quilling Tool to quill scraps of blue paper and roll them up to compliment the seashells.
4) Acrylic Block for stamping the LOVE word
5) Adhesives

A baby card for Off The Road Scrapbooking

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing a dimensional card I created a for a new born baby with two of my treasured Graphic45 collections - Once Upon A Springtime and Little Darlings :)

Can you tell the layout of this card including the words (Bless You) were totally inspired by the movie; Maleficent? For those who have watched the movie, you can probably connect to the three fairies, one precious baby, the moment where they were blessing the baby and the song...I love you, I walk with you once upon a dream :) Yes? Well couldn't find anything that says Once Upon a Dream but I guess Once Upon A Springtime is perfect too!

Core’dinations Design Team Call

Today I gonna do a post for my application to be part of Core'dinations Design Team.

Still remember when I chance upon Core'dinations Cardstock in a local scrap shop 5 or 6 years back; I was so in excited to have some fun with such unique paper. Sand, tear emboss!! Really?? Wow this paper is awesome. So I picked up a few sheets and there was no turning back.

For the benefit of those new to Core'dinations......Check out this picture below. With a little sanding you turned a piece of simple pink cardstock to a vava boom background! Cool right? Well well the coolness doesn't stop there...you can tear, emboss, distress and so much more!

Now back to the main purpose of this post before I side track too much :) Below are my creations for the application to be part of the design team.

First submission...a layout with lots of sanding and and distressing. Don't you just love distressing on Core'dinations cardstock? It gives the background so much texture. Simply AMAZING. Yeah that's the word...AMAZING!
Actually, this is not my usual style of scrapping but hey that's the beauty of Core'dinations cardstock. They are so easy to take on...A simple technique of sanding and clever use of (Tim Holtz and The Crafter's Workshop) stencils, you get awesome flawless results.

Chipboard embellishments from Blue Fern Studios, Dusty Attic and Studio Calico. They are distress with Tim Holtz Distress Ink. Some chipboards were further misted with Heidi Swapp Color Shine for additional effects.

Next up, two sweet and elegant cards. This pink cardstock is so pretty. I have to confess that I have been hoarding this cardstock for the longest time. I have gone through the motion of taking it out and putting it back countless time! It's so pretty and I adore it so much that I refuse to cut it up! Funny right...hahaha
But since now that I'm applying for a position to the design team, I figured I should be showcasing what I love about Core'dinations. Agree?

Thank You Card

In Singapore there is a FB community - Make a Card Campaign that scrappers or card makers can join to make some cards for respective organization. At this moment that are calling for 500 thank you cards for volunteers at CDAC (Chinese Development Assistance Council).

So here I am trying to churn out as many Thank You card as possible. As you can see from the picture below, I'm trying to do a series of cards with my favourite watercolor pencils. I'm so in love with water coloring now!

Lucky thing is that we are allowed to make multiples of the same design. More cards to share in the next few weeks as the deadline is on 1 Aug :)

The Unusual Birthday Card

This card was made for someone who does not have a liking for cakes. Hence, the unusual birthday card that does not have the usual cake or present picture on the front of the card.

Instead of cakes and presents or a BIG Happy Birthday word, I have decided to use one of my favourite Tim Holtz Stamp...I think this is so much more meaningful than just a Happy Birthday word...it signifies the same thing - celebrating a birth day but here...being thankful you are here in this world.

Same meaning;  different perspective. Agree??

Cards

Over the weekend, I was in the mood to make some cards as well.

First card, I challenge myself to try and stick to monotone and create a simple and elegant card. Ended up with lots of fun with my Sizzix Big Shot Machine. I have embossed the background, diecut the ornate frame using my Bigz Die and lastly, the LOVE word was cut from Dear Lizzy framelit.

About the Big Shot machine, if you do not have the magnetic platform or is thinking if you should have one, answer is yes! It makes die cutting with framelits a child's play. No more sticking tapes to ensure that framelits does not get shifted out of place while going through the machine. No regrets!

Second card - I made a Thank You card with lots of coloring.... hee hee coloring makes me a very happy girl.

These are the supplies I have used to make the above Thank You card.

In addition, I had some extra time on hand; thanks to school holiday. I'm loving that I have much more ME time. I made the same card using my Derwent Aquatone pencils for the background which gives it a smoother and softer background.

I will leave it to you to decide which look you prefer but I really like my Aquatone pencils!!!

Father's Day Cards

I know Mother's Day is always been given lots of emphasize. But in my personal opinion Father's Day is just as important.

All these years, I know that people will get all hype up about Mother's Day and they spend much more effort planning on gifts or gathering as compare to Father's Day.

One month before Mother's Day, I will see lots of promotions and advertisements for this special day wherever I turn. But now it's just another week more to Father's Day but things are so much quieter. Hmmm why is that so? 

To begin with, in order to have a little miracle to arrive in this world, we need both Man and Woman. Yes, I do agree that mummy does play a bigger role to the child but daddy shouldn't be over shadowed too :)

So let's give our daddy some love and attention shall we? I'm sure many will make Mother's Day card if they can but how about Father's Day card? So here's some inspiration.

I have used the same Tim Holtz Rays Stencils on both cards and created 2 different looks with different mediums.....

Watercolor with Ranger Distress Ink in Worn Lipstick and Evergreen Brough; Zig Calligraphy pen used to write the statement.

Faber Castell Gelato in Metallic Gold (Blend with water brush), Uniball white pen for the outline and border, Ranger glitter stickles for the dots round the border.

March DT Submission

Color Me Happy it's another reveal of my creations for Made With Love!

From February through March, the designer team in Made With Love are doing a 5 points introduction of ourselves. 

So here's my 5 points which I think most will be curious about..

One - The other side of me

I'm a full time working mother and started scrapping when my little prince Gabriel was born 7 years ago. So what do I work as? People always wonder if I work in a creative industry since I like crafting. Well on the contrary, I work in a boring techky industry. 

Monday to Friday, I'm a sales manager in the Audio/Video world. So asked me what are the different types of TV, home automation systems, digital signage etc and I will be willing to help. Sounds like such boring stuffs ya :)

Anyway, it was my dream to be in fashion or beauty industry but hmmm how did I end up doing something totally opposite? Hahaha I simply have no idea. 

Two - What I Dislike

I'm basically an easy going girl; always smiley and cheery. So I dislike it when people take my "niceness" for granted. 

When I'm nice to people I do not expect anything in return. However if they thought of me as an easy target to be bullied, then "Ching Ching" I will show my cat claws power!

So the above 2 points of some secrets about me...for the next 3 points, let's talk about my favorite hobby - scrapping!

Three - When and where do I scrap?

Since I'm working and I have to guide my boy in his schoolwork as well, I'm usually left with Friday and Saturday night for some "ME" time. However, from this year onwards, I'm determine to keep my project life up to date, hence Sunday evening has been put aside for Project Life. 

So far it's been working out well. A pat on my shoulder for being so discipline! :)  

Scrapping in the night has worked out pretty well for me (except for the dark eye rings to show all my hardwork!) since our dining table doubles up as my craft table.

I'm blessed to have a wonderful hubby who has customized a craft cabinet for me just beside the dining area. The difficult task is to keep the cabinet neat and tidy. This I have to thank Daiso (our $2 shop) that has fabulous storage solutions of all shapes and sizes.

Four - How Much I Love Scrapping

Answer is VERY MUCH (with a big grin) and these are the proofs:-

= if my favourite boutique like GG5 and Made With Love are having a sale I will walk staright into the scrap store without hesitation. 

= Pretty pattern papers and embellishments makes me a very happy girl...and if I can bring them back home I will keep thinking about how I wanna use them over the weekend.

= If I don't get to scrap, I will feel pent up; like a kid who needs some outdoor activities to release some energy and breathe!

= CHA shows always excites me more than fashion shows cause I know there will be pretty new stuffs I can play with soon. I will be watching you tube videos about all the new releases and mentally making a point on which collection I will drool over. 

= And Of Course, every Thursday morning is the day when I look forward to check out what's new in Made With Love.

Oh gosh! Do I sound normal? Hahahahaha

Five - Styles and Brands I Love

For me, it's just 2 styles, vintage or vibrant. If I'm scrapping about my little one, then it will be filled with vibrant color. So needless to say my other style when be vintage complete with sweet laces, tulle, ribbons, pearls and flowers.

I'm glad that in recent years, manufacturers have came up with more boys style which is really great for me. I still remember when I started scrapping how difficult it was to look for some serious boys stuffs to work with. Really happy that we have more choices out there to scrap about boys now.  

As for the brands, I have an endless list that I love working with....hope you are ready for this whopping long list!

First stop....THE layout :) I would like to give some attention to the background which I have used different mediums to create different dimensions.

• Art Anthology with Tim Holtz Dots Stencil to create a dimension on the 4 corners. 

• In the middle portion, I have used Kaisercraft stamps with Staz On Dove Gray Ink to give it a watermark effect.

• Faber Castell Metalli Gelato in pink was used twist out some pink polka dots

You can tell from the layout below that I love using different types of embellishments :) These brands are used in my layout: Crate Paper, Studio Calico, Glitz, Kaisercraft, Teresa Collins, Prima Marketing, My Minds Eye

Next up, I have also made 2 cards of different styles. *wink* *wink* I'm still in the love mood. 

Let's focus on some details about the cards:

• If you have not been following Made With Love's New Arrivals....this cute little crown is one of it... Click here to check out their weekly new arrivals.

• The heart and wings are chipboards from Maya Road which I have altered with Art Anthology and Heidi Swapp Color Shine Spray.

• Martha Stewart circle puncher was used to punch out the brown doily. I'm loving this puncher and will definitely check out the other cartridges!

Hmm....about this card, I would say that it's a great "bold" looking card to give to your guy. 

The front pocket adds an interesting touch or wow factor to the card. From the picture, you can see that I have used the camera clip to hide/clip the message "I love you to the moon and back" to the front pocket. It's up to your creativity how you want to use the front pocket. 

For example, you can add more to the message by slotting in an additional tag or better still photos of treasured moments.

So that's what I came up with this month, the other team members have also came up with very pretty pieces. Do remember to check them out.

Hello dear readers....

How's your weekend so far? For me, I had a great girlfriend gathering last night. It was great catching up with a bunch of dear friends. 

You must have noticed that I have been hibernating for quite some time; not showcasing any of my pieces. Well, there has been some changes on my scrapbooking journey. 

First of all, the sad news....Scraplicious in Parkway Parade has closed last month. My usual hangout place on the weekend while my son is in his enrichment class is gone. Sob Sob.  But the happy news is that I'm now in the Designer Team for Made With Love!!

Yes! The very first scrapbook shop I have patronize and seriously started this addictive hobby. Looking back from being a newbie 6 years ago to their VIP member and now part of their designer team. It has been a wonderful scrapping adventure.

Valentine's Day Inspiration

While we are busy buzzing around getting ready for Chinese New Year, don't forget that Valentine's Day is also just around the corner.

Here's some pretty Valentine's Day cards and a layout to remind us of special moments.

Meanwhile, with Christmas that has just passed and Chinese New Year coming our way, I'm sure many of us have come to handle many carton boxes. Do not under estimate these plain looking boxes.

In the spirit of "scrapping" I literally scrapped a piece of cardboard which I tore out from one of the boxes. This is really what I love about scrapping. You can practically take something that look so ordinary; scrap it and make it into a beautiful piece of work.

I have one of the pieces hanging in my door way to inspire and perk me up every morning before I leave the house.

For those who would like to try it out (and have some fun with all your inks):

1) Get a piece of cardboard from any carton boxes. Any size of your liking.

2) Then tear of the first layer of the cardboard so that the corrugated design in the mid section shows up. Just tear around the sides as you will still need a proper backing for my decorations.

3) When the tearing is done, use all the different types of inks you have and mix them up together to have some fun. Don't worry about being creative...actually you should be more daring and be amazed at how the ink can create such different effects.

4) Once you are satisfied with the effect, just decorate and it's done.

I have attached pictures showing the materials and inks I have used for each cardboard.

Everyday I have been telling myself that I need to update my blog but I just never got down to do it.

Now that Christmas is over and New Year is just 2 days away....I have no reason to put it off anymore. 

Well as the old sayings goes.....this year's work has to be completed this year. Do not owe or carry forward to next year or there will be more work to do.

So here's what I have done for my December inspiration. Now that I'm starting to write about it....I realise OMG I should have done this at the beginning of the month...tsk tsk tsk so guilty of being lazy.
