And so they say action speaks louder than words....well today, it will be pictures speaks louder than words!

Ready for another mixed media canvas tutorial? I have tried to take photos as I go along....hopefully it will help for a better understanding.

Step 1: The butterfly

• Butterfly is made from cutting chipboard using the Sizzix Butterfly Bigz Die. I love Bigz Dies cause they can cut through thick materials.

 

• Paint the butterfly with a layer of Distress Paint in Picket Fence. Allow to dry naturally or with a heat tool. Then dab Momento Luxe Ink Pad in Rose Bud sparingly just to give it s pink hue

• Create a background for the butterfly using Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Stamps with Staz On Ink Pad Dove Gray

• Finally touch up on the pink hue and add some glimmer to the butterfly with Tattered Angels Chalkboard spray and glimmer mist.

Not sure if you can see a slight tint of glimmer - a result from Tattered Angel glimmer mist.

Step 2: Canvas Background

• Random spray the canvas with colors you love.  I have chosen Pink and Green as the main background color. Orange Tattered Angel spray was added to give it an effect of sunlight. Spray on the canvas generously so that when you tilt the canvas, the sprayed inks will flow down to give you the "leaking" effect. Allow to dry naturally or with a heat tool.

• Aspen Tree stencil from Crafters Workshop is used here for the forest effect. Shades of Green and Grey were used to simulate a dense forest. Can you see how the orange spray we have used earlier is creating the effect of how sunlight is trying to peek into the dense forest?

• Once dry, I worked on the bottom half of the canvas with another Crafters Workshop Stencil, Mini Bricks and texture paste for the wall effect. I have lightly run my Prima Grey chalk ink over the bricks when dry to weather the look a little.

• Once all the mediums on the canvas are totally dry, it's time to add on embellishment! I have decorated my butterfly with Tulle, Prima flowers and leaves before adhering it onto the canvas.
• Martha Stewart butterfly punch was used to punch out the paper butterflies. Liquid pearls were applied to both the butterflies to give it some vintage look.
• The wood veneer bench is from Kaisercraft. I have lightly shaded it with Distress Paint - Picket Fence to blend better with the brick wall.
• Finally add some wordings to the canvas!

It's not too difficult after all correct? I love making meaningful decorative pieces like this. Personalise and a great gift for any occasion!
